Sevoflurane cardiovascular effects

One of the Sevoflurane cardiovascular effects is that the Sevoflurane has minimal effect on heart rate. There is a fall in systemic vascular resistance and blood pressure, but less than isoflurane.

Also Sevoflurane cardiovascular effects are complex such as the pulmonary arterial pressure is also reduced. There is a lesser depression of left ventricular systolic function than other agents. It does not sensitize the myocardium; it is a coronary vasodilator but there is no coronary steal.

There is no sympathetic stimulation, the myocardial 0, consumption is reduced, and mixed venous saturation increases. The hepatic and renal blood flows are well maintained. It does not sensitize the myocardium to adrenaline; may protect the myocardium in ischemia.

Muscles and the sevoflurane cardiovascular effects : There is an increase in vascular flow to muscles and relaxation is sufficient for tracheal intubation.

There is potentiation of nondepolarizing muscle blockade. The train-of-four recovery is similar to isoflurane. Its action is on the postjunctional area.

Sevoflurane cardiovascular effects and Central nervous system : There is a dose-dependent decrease in EEG activity, cerebral oxygen consumption and cerebrovascular resistance is reduced.

Mild neuroexcitatory phenomenon seen in a case, this is more than with isoflurane, mean arterial pressure and CPP are better maintained than with isoflurane. The cerebrovascular response to CO2 and the cerebral autoregulation are both preserved. A slight increase in ICP is noted.
